Underground River


Declared in 1999 as a Natural World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, the rivers’ main attraction is the 8.2 km. Underground River reputed to be the worlds longest that winds through spectacular cave before emptying into the South China Sea. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water’s edge.


Monkeys, large monitor lizards and squirrel find their niche on the forest near the cave.

Nature trippers will find unmatched delight in theirr hike through the Monkey Trail, a series wooden steps going deep into the forest. Bird watchers will also find unmatched delight as the park nurtures endemic birds in Palawan.


The park may be reached through a two-hour ride from the city proper. A twenty minute’s ride from Sabang takes visitors directly to the underground river ranger station, where outrigger boats await cave explorers.

 

Honda Bay

Just 30 minutes north of city proper, it can be reached by hired motor boat at Sta. Lourdes wharf. Dive sites abound here as the entire area is close to the surface down to 24 meters. Many islands have shallow reefs, good beaches, characterized as gradually sloping. It is perfect site for island hopping and other related activities like swimming, snorkeling, fishing and scuba diving.

 

PWRCC


More popularly known as the Crocodile Farm, this 10-hectare area found just outside the center of the city, was established to help protect endangered species of crocodiles found in the Philippines. For a minimal fee, tourist can view the fearsome creatures, or visit the small zoo that houses animals indigenous to Palawan

 

Tubbataha Reef


Located in the Sulu sea some 150 kilometers southeast of Puerto Princesa City, the Tubbataha Reef National Maritime Park boasts of 33,200 hectares of vast underwater gardens teeming with diverse marine life. It lies within the coral triangle shared by Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines which has the highest concentration and diversity of marine species in the world. Tubbataha represents the largest coral reef atoll in the country and is the most productive spawning ground of various aquatic species dispersed throughout the Philippine seas.

 

Tabon Cave


Primarily an archeological site, it is otherwise known as the “Cradle of Philippine Civilization.” Found here was the skull cap of the oldest Filipino dating back to 22,000 years.

Being a place of special interest, the Tabon Caves appeal more to tourists and visitors with concern for culture, the patterns of livelihood of early men are suggested by excavated artifacts on the Tabon Museum. Of the 200 Caves in the Tabon Caves Complex, only 7 are open to visitors.

 

Estrella Falls


A natural series of water falls of cool, clear water at the foot of the mountain. Ideal place for swimming and leisure walk on the outskirts of the forest.
